Review/Setlist

BB King's - New York, NY
Opener: Shannon McNally

All though the front consisted of all table seating, were still made our way up to the front and had a great view all nighe. Since seating is also all cabaret so we meet this wonderfully pleasant man who we are sharing a table with(note sarcasm). Manager comes over to make sure nobody gets anymore hostile. Thankfully man leaves after Shannon's set and our waitress comes over to see if we're all alright. Low and behold....our waitress is from Madison WI - talk about small world!

Once again Shannon's set was great especially with Bukka on accordion and "Kenny on the box". Soon after the BoDeans take the stage, and for the third night we're ready to rock. I don't have an official setlist, but I did see one and I believe it was changed up quite a bit from what they actually played, which was:

1. Dreams
2. Only Love
3. Still The Night - Sam comment 'this song is from about 1945 or something'
4. Texas Ride Song - a few of us get up and jump....actually make it all the way through the song before being told to sit back down. Guess I can handle that - but some major chair dancing was taking place on my part for the rest of the show.
5. True Devotion - our waitress comes past jokingly saying "you trouble makers" :)
6. Fadeaway
7. 617 - we do a countoff but are way too early!
8. Makes U
9. You Don't Get Much - Sam dedicates it to the Ramones saying something like "Joey, we stole a lot of things from your band" "I'm sure you did" - Kenny loses control of a drum stick and it goes flying. Tries to grab a new one and loses that one too.
10. Good Work
11. Naked - Sam misses the first of two "my, my, my, my, my baby.." because he's on the other side of the stage.
12. Good Things
13. I'm In Trouble w/Stolen Car
14. Feed The Fire w/Gimme Shelter, Slow Ride, Midnight Hour
15. Closer To Free - couldn't help it anymore and we get up to dance again.

There weren't any breaks and very little talking in between songs. Sam said that since they were limited on time that they would just play right through....and play they did!

We all kind of separated after the show, some stayed for Roger Clyne, some went one way and some of us went another way. And some walked around the streets of New York and dealt with a *very serious* hiccup episode ("but mom...."), someone got tackled in time square (by accident) and someone had a famous birthday. But before we knew it, it was up bright and early on Sunday. Would have been a much nicer morning if the bed wasn't still spinning when I got up. Despite getting only a few hours of sleep, we make our way to the train station where we caught our very early train to Boston.

Paradise Rock Club - Boston, MA
Opener: Shannon McNally

Spent a lovely day in Boston before heading to the Paradise Rock Club and once again finding ourselves front and center for the fourth night in a row.

Shannon McNally takes the stage once again and does a great set although there weren't any guest appearances by Bukka and Kenny this time around. The BoDeans came out to a very excited crowd. Everyone in the place was so into the show. People were jumping and dancing up in the balcony's and singing along at every chance they got and the band in turn was having a wonderful time also.

Their setlist when like this:
1. Dreams
2. Only Love
3. Still the Night - At the very end the guys were all getting ready for that last final crash to end the song....but Kurt never signaled for it and left Kenny sitting there with both arms up in the air waiting for it. Kenny sat there like that for at least a good 10 seconds before Kurt instead smiled, laughed and went right into....
4. Texas Ride Song - Kurt says something about apologizing for the last song saying "...sometimes you just go crazy"
5. Fadeaway - with Sam playing Bed's too Big right before Kenny played on his guitar again.
6. 617
7. Makes U
8. Sad Eyes - Sam said it's about songs you sing that you might not admit to a crowd
9. You Don't Get Much - by the end of the song the crowd was going crazy... "Kenny, Kenny, Kenny...." after Sam mentions that Kenny is from Massachusetts. There's a pause after we all chant Kenny's name...then Kurt mentions that Eric is from Massachusetts as well and the chant then changes to Eric's name. But Kurt was not to be out done and got a chant going for himself with "Works with Numi too" just before Good Work. It was all too much fun!
10. Runaway w/Del Shannon intro - Sam introduces it saying that the first time they played this in Boston was when they opened for Scruffy The Cat. Then asks..."how's it go again?" before launching into the Del Shannon intro which included everyone there singing along!
11. Good Work
12. Naked - This time Kurt not only smiles and lets us sing the echo of 'Hold You" but then points right at us when "Control" comes about. That single moment made my entire weekend absolutely perfect.
13. Feed The Fire w/ Gimme Shelter, Slow Ride, Midnight Hour - Sam adds alittle "she's about 4 foot 4....from her head to the ground" Too funny!
14. Closer to Free - Sam mixed in a little " Love that dirty water" for the hometown crowd
----encore----
15. I'm in Trouble Again w/Stolen Car
16. True Devotion
17. Good Things

All in all it was a fantastic trip. I don't think I have ever laughed, sang or danced so much in my entire life. I couldn't help be have a smile permanently stuck on my face the entire time. At all the shows this past weekend, I would look around and see so many wonderful people standing around me and just felt so loved. Not to mention that I met so many more great people as well! Everything this weekend just felt so right, like I said before "Perfect" is the only word that can really sum up the entire weekend.
