Barrymore Theater - Madison, WI Opener: Susie Suh
We arrived plenty early as always, took our places in line outside and it wasn't long before we started hearing the soundcheck from our spots on the sidewalk. From what I heard, they played Idaho, Sleep and Brand New. When doors finally opened we situated ourselves up front. Susie Suh did a wonderful job opening, a bit mello for the rocking show that was about to happen, but definitely enjoyable if you took the time to listen.
The guys came out soon enough and played for a packed out. Not to mention the crowd didn't hesitate one bit when it came to singing along. The energy was unreal and definitely made it a memorable night!
Setlist:
1. Ultimately Fine - Definitely a favorite of mine!
2. Heart of America - Sam sang it as American rather then Miracle once again.
3. Idaho
4. Makes U - Sam's comment at the end "We're the BoDeans, if you didn't know" - Don't worry Sam, we know. :)
5. Brand New
6. Stay On - in the middle of the song, Eric had come up to play next to Kurt. Kurt looks at him and says, "Let's bounce" so they bounced in perfect unison. There was also a moment when Kurt and Sam were center stage facing each other, and it looked like Kurt reached over and strummed Sam's guitar.
7. Fadeaway w/Bed's Too Big - Kurt was doing that awesome intro again and building up the momentum without letting anyone know it was Fadeaway, then Kurt says "the Suspense"
8. Texas Ride Song - Kurt says "Let's go for a ride"
9. Still the Night - before they started Sam says "How you doing tonight? (we all scream) I knew that, I just wanted to hear it!" During the song Sam was facing Kenny and then started hitting the cymbal with his guitar.
10. Runaway w/Del Shannon intro
11. You Don't Get Much - absolutely breathtaking!
12. Jenny Rae - after the song, Sam introduces Kurt as "Kurt Robert Neumann, the Jed Stone Cowboy" then Sam starts playing this Mexican sounding melody for a few seconds then stops. Kurt says "yeah, do your Mexican Hot Dance Song" Sam starts playing again for a few more seconds before saying that the place would go up in flames if he did.
13. Naked w/Rickshaw Riding - I was shocked when Kurt started playing Rickshaw Riding in the middle of the song and then Sam sang part of it too before they went into "My hands are shaking, as I reach for the touch". It fit in there so well and was such a treat to real live!
14. Closer to Free - as they were walking off stage for the encore, Sam walked off holding up 4 fingers as if to say, 4 more songs...which you can see they did end up playing
---encore---
15. Misery - Kurt began saying how they've been playing for 25 years and thanking everyone for the support over the years. Then Sam goes on to say "and 25 years of.....(they start playing Misery)"
16. Good Work - full blown rocker like we're used to. Even a bit of Batman mixed in there, too!
---encore #2---
17. Nobody Loves Me
18. Good Things
Awesome show like always, the guys looked like they were having a great time up on stage and enjoying a crowd that sang along throughout the entire show. Not to mention that they were looking great as always too! The only thing missing from the show was....."IS THERE A DOCTOR IN THE HOUSE!!" But I tried to represent it as best as I could in tshirt form! :)
