Review/Setlist

Vogue Theater - Indinapolis, IN

I was very excited to be able to experience a show at the Vogue since I have always heard so many good things about the venue and the shows that take place there. I have to say that I was not disappointed whatsoever! It was a great show, great crowd and by all appearances the band was having a great time on stage as well!

We arrived early and as we walked from the parking lot in back to the front of the building, we could hear Kenny banging away on his drums as we walked past the stage doors. We had no trouble finding our spots up front and this time a little to the left. The venue is a great little club with a dance floor a few steps lower than the rest of the bar area (which was in the very center) providing everyone with bar access and still a great view of the stage. There was also a balcony with tables around the perimeter of the club. I didn't make it up there, but what can I say, I was a happy girl right where I was standing.

The dance floor slowly filled in and by showtime it was packed with a great crowd. Lots of singing and dancing and thankfully very little pushing. The show started earlier by some standards, but only because it had to be over by 10pm when the venue changes over from a concert venue to a dance club.

The guys were looking fabulous like always. And wasted no time getting into the show, it went like this:
1. Ultimately Fine - absolutely loved it. Great show opener in my opinion. There is just so much energy to this song that you just can't stand still. Kenny just takes control and just rips it up! At the very end they were all winding down getting ready to end it when Kenny just kept going and going and going. Kurt seemed determined to end it and kept shaking his head and jokingly mouthing the words "No, No No" to Kenny who just wasn't going to let the song end yet. The rest of the band eventually gave in and kept going with the song. So Kenny stuck his tongue out at Kurt. :)
2. Heart of A Miracle - sang as "America" yet again. Sam also changed up the lyrics a bit. "...make a fresh pot of coffee, maybe light up a big fat joint"
3. Texas Ride Song - lots of jumping on my part! Just way too much fun! It's such a fun sight to see Kurt, Eric and Sam all jumping in unison with the crowd as well. Just another one of those songs that have so much energy that it's next to impossible to stand still. Not to mention Eric's bass solo in the middle was as solid as could be. I was standing in barefeet and could feel the entire floor shaking from his bass and the Kenny's bass drum. All that power I'm surprised they didn't take the whole place down!
4. Still The Night - They had the whole place singing along with this one! At the very end Kenny increased the pace a bit....ok, a lot! And of course Kurt was again battling Kenny for control of the song ending. This time it was Kenny who ended as normal but Kurt just kept playing on strumming his guitar on a big long runout.
5. Idaho - staring at the world!
6. Makes U - Kurt's comment before the song "are you happy? (we scream) I'm happy, making you happy"
7. Good Work - before the song, Sam told us that in like 1988 or something they were recording and got in some trouble and called up the Kenny-hotline saying "Kenny, we need ya!" and Kenny's reply was "I'll be there tomorrow" and then there he was. When Sam got done telling us all this he turns back to Kenny who just points at Sam with a great big smile on his face!
As for the song....Good Work was rocking as ever! And when it came to Bukka's keyboard solo in the middle, Kurt walked back by Bukka, reached over and started hitting random keys! They also added in a bit of Batman although no one on stage actually sang it, but we sure did! Just before they went into the reprise ending, Sam walks over just in front of Kurt's mic stand and leans over a bit so that his face was right in front of Kurt's guitar which Kurt was still playing. You can imagine it was quite a funny looking scene and of course all the other guys were just laughing at the whole thing!
After the song was over, everyone looked like they could take a breather, and Kurt informed us "we're al friends here, start taking it off" :)
8. Brand New - Sam changed the lyrics up a bit on this one too.... instead of "hot and humid wind" it was an "Indiana wind" friday night.
9. Stay On - such a great song, always love hearing it!
10. Runaway w/Del Shannon intro - Sam's comment before they started "Was Del Shannon from Indiana? He should have been."
11. Fadeaway - My notes never lie, and in this case they said: KENNY! MY GOD THAT BEAT!!.. :) And on top of that Kurt sang Bed's Too Big! AND we got Kenny beating on Sam's guitar! Perfect combination to me, and we were all lovin' it!
12. You Don't Get Much - Kurt's comment "Kenny, the hometown hero!......He's my hero...(turns to Kenny)...You was my hero, man!" Also, in the very beginning when it's just Kenny pounding away behind his kit, Sam had walked over to the edge of the stage, picked up a drum stick that Kenny had tossed aside earlier and started to hit one of the drums on Kenny's left side! Speaking of drum sticks, somewhere in the middle of the song Kenny had tossed one stick already during the song, then he tossed a second one. The only thing was that it ended up landing right were Eric had been standing 2 seconds earlier! He had just taken about two steps forward and it's a good thing he did!
13. Naked w/Rickshaw Riding - with the BoDiva's singing the "HOLD YOU" & "CONTROL" parts! Right after we sang the "hold you" Kurt points to himself with a funny expression on his face as if to say 'who, me?'
14. Closer to Free - a definite crowd favorite every time! Just too much fun! At the very end when they're all walking off stage Sam commented "Stay tuned for the disco show!" referencing the Vogue becoming a dance club afterwards.
-- encore --
15. Angels - When they walked back out on stage Sam was last to walk out and he just walked over to Kurt before he even got his guitar. Kurt must have agreed and then said that "We don't know if everyone knows this song....but Sam says we're doing it" and then they went into Angels! Absolutely loved it! Even though not everyone one stage seemed to know the song very well, it still sounded awesome!
16. Good Things - what an absolute frenzy! And what a way to end a show. Kurt, Eric & Sam jumping along with the crowd and then Kurt and Sam face to face strumming their guitars like there's no tomorrow!

On multiple occasions throughout the show, the guys would be standing right up in the front with Eric and Sam standing next to each other, shoulder to shoulder. The only problem was that each time they did, one of them would start pushing the other over, so of course the other would push back. So there they are, each one trying to hold their ground, push the other and play their guitar all at the same time. Absolutely hilarious!
