Grapefest (Hummer Stage) - Grapevine, TX
Opener: LeFreak

It all started with a BoDiva birthday, a bit of Bob Schneider, and of course the BoDeans mixed in as well. And it just so happened that it all took place in Texas. We made it into Dallas just in time to catch up with the rest of our group and to head out to see Bob Schneider with Strings Attached. Bob is always a treat to see and with this line up just made it that much sweeter.

The following day was spent by the pool catching some rays before heading over to Grapefest and the Hummer stage. Still can't believe that we spent the entire evening at a wine festival yet didn't have any wine! So what's a good wisconsin girl to do? Why keep heading to the beer tent of course!

Didn't really know what to think of LeFreak. Sure the first 20 min were entertaining, but honestly, that last hour was just disco overkill. It was nice that WI was represented (Femmes - Blister in the Sun) but let's just say that it wasn't pretty.

Things seemed to be running late and the BoDeans, although scheduled for 10pm, didn't get on stage until about 20 minutes later. Which of course resulted in a shortened set, but it didn't seem to stop them from sounding great and sharing lots of smiles throughout the entire show.

Couldn't believe how every which way we looked, there were people from Wisconsin who had either flown in (including ourselves), or were Wisconsin transplants. Seemed like everyone we talked to knew the guys through some sort of Wisconsin ties.

As for the set, it went something like this:
1. Fadeaway w/Bed's Too Big - great opener. Kurt sounded awesome through the whole show but this really was a highlight for me. Before they started, Kurt mentioned something along the lines that they only play their own songs, so "I hope you know some of them!", referring to the last hour and a half that we had to listen to nothing but 70's-80's covers.
2. Texas Ride Song - What better place to jump to TRS than in TX! Definitely a first for me! - Texas that is....not jumping.
3. 617 - Funny enough, some of our group were crashing in room 617 that evening!
4. Idaho
5. Say About Love
6. Good Work w/Batman
- Bukka was on fire! He sounded (and looked) great back there behind his keyboard. And Good Work was no exception!
7. Still the Night w/Wanna Be Sedated - We sang our part....they sang their part...as if there was any other way! Mid-song Sam said this one was for Joey, as if there was anyone else you'd dedicate it to!
8. Makes U
9. Runaway
10. Naked
- Could it get any more fun than that? Kurt shaking his head at us, then turning and laughing when we sang "hold you". Was it the pointing? At least everyone got the memo this time. What more could any of us want....Sam singing such a beautiful song like only he can, and Kurt having fun with the BoDivas!
11. Closer To Free - Always so much fun, 4 up front and Noah looking more and more like Animal every week!
- encore -
12. Good Things - The guys had barely walked off stage before they turned around and walked back out and play one more. It sounded great and we jumped, what better way to end the show.

The trip home was long as always, thankfully all BoDivas made it on the plane, albeit a bit late, the shuttle situation in Chicago was atrocious, and I was greeted home by a cold, cold rain. That's what vacations are all about, right?

Now...one last thing. I ask for a moment of silence to remember a fine little red notebook, a notebook that served me well through a summer filled with shows, a notebook which holds so many memories, setlists, quotes and inside jokes that only a BoDiva would understand. Although there were no other injuries, my little red notebook was tragically lost in the the line of duty and will be dearly missed. :(
