Barrymore Theatre - Madison, WI

After a great couple of days in Minneapolis, we packed our things and headed back to Wisconsin. The drive to Madison is a long one, but goes by much faster when you have great company in the car! After meeting up with more friends in Mad-town, we soon found ourselves heading over to the Barrymore. We were a little worried when we were a little farther back in line than I’m use to, so we ended up more like the Res Sea of shirts as some of us headed to Kurt’s side while others headed to Sam side. By the way, if you ever want to meet a bunch of people at a show, matching shirts are definitely the way to do it! Especially when you change right in the crowd, right big guy?

The guys came out soon enough (early actually, 8:57 by my watch) to a sold out Madison crowd who were more than ready to have a good time. It went like this:

1. YDGM – Once again this version is definitely the best of both worlds with the rocking beginning & end with that great slowed down acoustic section in the middle.
2. Runaway
3. Good Work w/Batman
4. 617
– again, absolutely loving the bass in the beginning.
5. Idaho – Kurt was telling us how they were once driving and driving and driving across Montana (Kurt pretends to be driving a car) and that it started snowing (he then motioned as if snow were falling), they drove on (Kurt acting that out again) and that eventually they couldn’t see the road anymore (covers his eyes) and thus pulled off into the little town of Manhattan Montana. He continued on with the story before saying that the song was inspired about the locals having their own perspective of the world and that he needed to get his own perspective as well. When they got to the lyrics “with hair I don’t understand, it’s just ‘bout as long……” Kurt thought it was fitting to fluff his own hair a bit right then.
6. Texas Ride Song – In regards to the jumping issue, in the beginning Kurt said: “you can’t make me!”…..At the end: ”You win, you made me do it. I didn’t want to do it, but you made me.”
7. True Devotion – the crowd did a fantastic job singing along. Right up there with the Boulder crowd!
8. Still the Night w/Sedated – Kurt ended up on his knees twice, and once again kept them going and going and going for the Sedated ending.
9. Pick Up The Pieces – Kurt told us all to do “a little break dancing” but I’m convinced he was just talking to the English Chick, not that she needed any encouragement. As Noah is laying down that incredible beat, Kurt has the crowd answering him as he goes whoot whoot, (whoot whoot) oh yeah, (oh yeah) say what (say what)...I was all ready for a “check it” or "hell yeah" to get thrown in too, but alas...maybe next time.
10. Makes U – Kurt began by telling us he couldn’t believe it’s going to be 2007, “wasn’t it just the 60’s”
11. Misery - In between songs, a few people were getting restless and screaming out for Naked. Sam said “yeah, we’ll play that later….we always do”
Somewhere in the middle of the song Kurt was really getting into it and playing the blues, Eric caught on and followed suit. Talk about a great combo. Not sure if that was planned or not but it sounded fantastic! Once again Sam was trying to get someone up on stage to sing the last verse. Took a little effort to get someone to come up there, but at last a guy climbed up on stage. Granted I was on the other side of the stage, but I never hear a word out of that guy before Sam told him to get down because he couldn’t do it right. Instead Sam helped a lady up on stage who had no problem whatsoever working the crowd!
12. Stay On – I seem to have heard a "Hell Yeah" from someone near by…wonder who that could have been?...
13. Fadeway w/Bed’s Too Big – fantastic, just plain fantastic.
14. Naked – This time there was a memo.
15. Closer To Free – Sam started off with a great howl like only he can do! Bukka was wandering all over the place with his Baldoni and there never are quite enough four up front moments.
- encore -
16. Angels
17. Feed The Fire w/Gimme Shelter, Slow Ride, Midnight Hour, Gloria, Don’t Cha
- whew, enough snippets for ya? All that and she was only 4’4” from her head to the ground!
18. Good Things

Great night, with a great group of friends and plenty of dancing room, (at least where we were.) The only thing that could have made the night better was if I didn’t have a killer headache by the end of the night. No I wasn’t drinking much, actually, may be I just wasn’t drinking enough! Besides, I took care of that problem the following night.
